Stoneville Pedigreed Seed Co./Acala Cotton Seeds, Inc., sign European distribution agreements with Pioneer Hi-Bred International Inc.

Memphis, Tennessee
September 25, 2001

Stoneville Pedigreed Seed Company, an internationally recognized leader in the development, production and marketing of cotton planting seed, and Pioneer Hi-Bred International Inc, the world's largest developer and producer of hybrid seed corn and varietal soybean seed, are pleased to announce a pair of agreements that will bolster each company's market position in the cotton markets of southern Europe.

Stoneville, and its affiliate company, Acala Cotton Seeds, Inc., who recently acquired the cotton seed assets of Germain's Cotton Seeds, Inc. of Fresno, California, have each executed exclusive agreements with Pioneer Overseas Corporation (POC), an affiliate of Pioneer Hi-Bred International, for distribution of their cotton planting seed products in the countries of Greece and Spain.

The Spain agreements, effective immediately, will include the efforts of Pioneer Hi-Bred Spain. Under the terms of the Greece agreements, scheduled to take effect January 1, 2002, Stoneville and Acala will work with Pioneer Hi-Bred Hellas S.A. Cotton seed distributed in both countries will be non-transgenic. Stoneville President Thomas F. (Bud) Hughes says, "Stoneville is extremely pleased to associate with Pioneer in the important cotton markets of Europe. Because Stoneville is a leading supplier of cotton seeds to these markets, and Pioneer is a leading seed supplier to these markets, this new alliance will bring opportunities to improve the total package of products and services to the growers of Greece and Spain."

Pioneer's Vice-President and Director of European Operations, Giuseppe Manara commented, "I am very enthusiastic about the potential our relationship with Stoneville brings to our customers. Farmers in Spain and Greece will have more options for profitability now that superior cotton seed is available through the familiar Pioneer seed representative they know and trust."

Rich in cotton heritage, Stoneville Pedigreed Seed Co. is headquartered in Memphis, Tennessee, with research & development sites, and seed production facilities located across the United States and internationally. Breeding cotton since 1922, the company provides conventional and transgenic varieties that cotton growers need today to compete in the global cotton economy.
