New company announced – SJV Seeds, LLC
Lemoore, California
December 2, 2004

Steve Leffler, formerly CA Manager for Barkley Seed, and Jim Crisp, owner and C.E.O. of Crisp Warehouse, announce the formation of SJV Seeds, LLC. This company will specialize in the production, processing, packaging and distribution of quality seeds.

Located in Fair Oaks, CA, Steve Leffler has 25 plus years in the seed industry, both vegetable and cereal grain, and has worked both domestically and internationally. For the past nine years, Steve has been working specifically within the San Joaquin Valley of CA in the cereal seed and grain industry, where he directed Barkley Seed through the process of successfully introducing and actively marketing proprietary wheat seed. At the start of this project, there were no successful proprietary wheat seeds being sold in the San Joaquin Valley. Now proprietary seeds demand more than ninety percent of the market share of cereal seeds in that marketplace.

“I am really excited about this company and being given the opportunity to bring exciting new seed genetics and varieties to the CA farmers as a function of this endeavor. This is something that I have wanted to do for several years and the opportunities of available new genetics and the current market conditions made this opportunity irresistible at this time. There are exiting new technological advances for this industry on the horizon and I want to be a leader in bringing these new alternatives to the CA farmers now,” said Steve Leffler, C.E.O. of SJV Seeds.
Located in the heart of the central San Joaquin Valley, Jim Crisp has been in the seed and grain business most of his adult life. Purchasing and assuming control of the family business built by his father, Jack Crisp, in 1994 Crisp Warehouse, Inc. now operates under the name of JC Diversified Enterprises, Inc. Jim has aggressively upgraded the facility to improve product quality and service to the farmers of the Valley as well as to the end use grain purchasers. Jim has acquired a unique reputation for service to his customers, both in deliveries and grain receiving, as well as providing timely and detailed information to the farmers enabling them to better assess the results of their farming practices.

“Quality seed genetics, clean local production, combined with identification and marketing of premium qualities to the farmer and miller coupled with qualified and reliable distribution are the keys to this business. These items have been our focus for the past nine years that we have been serving the farmers in the San Joaquin Valley and they are certainly not going to change in this new venture. We look forward to being involved in SJV Seeds to bring new and exciting varieties of seeds to the farmers of CA,” said Jim Crisp, President of SJV Seeds, LLC.
Both Leffler and Crisp went on to say, “We look forward to contacting and presenting our products and quality service to as many farmers within CA as possible during the coming years. We see it as a real challenge to keep up with the technological advances that are moving our industry forward so rapidly these days and we intend to be on the cutting edge of new products and advances as they pertain to the seed industry today.”
