Master Seeds Yearbook 2005 now available from Masstock Arable (UK) Ltd.

United Kingdom
April 25, 2005

Farming’s most comprehensive guide to seed varieties and their agronomy has been released by Masstock. The new Master Seeds Yearbook 2005 is now available and for the first time combines information from the HGCA Recommended List with agronomy notes on recommended varieties and list contenders.

After twenty years of publishing seeds and variety data in the well-respected Dalgety Yearbook, the new name reflects the company’s new ownership as part of the Masstock Group.

The yearbook runs to 96 pages of detailed variety analysis for arable and forage crops with more Recommended List detail than ever before.

“We have comprehensively revised this publication to deliver a seeds technical package second to none,” says Barry Barker, national seed business manager for Dalgety.

“It takes in a wealth of data from the Recommended Lists, and builds in variety R&D from across Masstock AgriFocus and COGS (Co-Ordinated Growing Systems) trials. There’s a more comprehensive set of Recommended lists, technical descriptions and agronomy pointers, which incorporate nutrition as well as seed information.”

In the Yearbook each crop is prefaced with a market overview.  According to the preface in the wheat section, the crop will be the foundation stone that arable incomes rely on under the Single Farm Payment.  For oilseed rape the new opportunities lie in biofuels and other industrial uses.

“In its 21st year our Yearbook has truly come of age,” says Mr Barker. “The wealth of data on the strength and weaknesses of the leading varieties allows growers to see exactly how each one contributes to an overall business plan.

“This single document demonstrates the proficiency and depth of knowledge across the whole Masstock Group – it’s essential reading for growers who want to maximise value from their arable enterprise.”

Masstock customers across the country will receive their Yearbook automatically; agricultural college libraries can get a copy by phoning Mark Britton at Throws Farm Arable Development Centre on 01371 856431.
