Outstanding Seed Company up and running with pumpkins, winter squash, gourds, sweet peppers and hot peppers
Monaca, Pennsylvania
January 28, 2005

Outstanding Seed Company LLC is a new family owned seed company with breeding and production in pumpkins, winter squash, gourds, sweet peppers and hot peppers.  In addition to marketing their own products, the company is distributing for Abbott and Cobb, Crookham, Danson, Dorsing, Golden Valley, Hollar, LSL PlantScience, Mesa Maize, Orsetti, Rainbow Valley, Seeds By Design, Sutter, U.S. Seedless, Wild West and more.

While Outstanding Seed Company LLC is a new company, its president, Jamie Hoffman, has over twenty years experience in the vegetable seed industry.  Hoffman recently resigned his position as Sales Manager/Product Development Manager with Meyer Seed International, Inc.  Hoffman's career began with Asgrow Seed Company, which he says was a great place to learn about quality and about the seed business.

The company is up and running with catalogs mailed to growers and two representatives on board.  Walter Orlowski of Deer Acres covers eastern Pennsylvania.  Doug and Char Woodruff of Rainbow Valley Seeds cover Ohio.

Among the new peppers released this year are Sarika, Agoti, Malika, Justina, Rebecca and Electra.  Sarika is an early, creamy yellow, large Hungarian sweet banana pepper.  Agoti is an early, creamy yellow semi-hot Hungarian stuffing pepper.  Malika is an early, creamy yellow sweet Hungarian stuffing pepper.  Justina is a large, early, blocky, smooth, uniform thick walled green to red bell pepper.

Rebecca and Electra are extra large, early, blocky, smooth, uniform, thick walled green to red bell peppers.  All have good field tolerance to disease.  Trials indicate both Rebecca and Electra to be larger and earlier than other leading bell pepper hybrids.
