Pure-Seed
Testing, Inc., located in Canby, Oregon, was the site for this
year’s “Grower Day,” hosted by
Turf-Seed, Inc.
The annual event provides an
opportunity for growers to learn about and view test plots for
new seed varieties available in fall.
“So many of the new varieties that Turf-Seed, Inc. brings to
market are bred for very specific attributes,” explained Bill
Rose, president of Turf-Seed, Inc. “Not only are they new to our
company, but they’re also new to the industry, so a firsthand
look at these varieties and the research that supports the breed
is important to our growers.”
Turf-Seed, Inc.’s growers use Grower Day as their opportunity to
review current research including seed yield trials that
represent how much seed production can be expected from each
variety. Turf quality trials are also featured that depict how
the successful a variety is under normal turf conditions.
Throughout the day, Crystal Rose-Fricker, president of Pure-Seed
Testing, Inc. conducts tours of the trial station for each
species and answers questions about every available variety.
“I’m really pleased with today’s turnout,” said Rose-Fricker,
“The growers are doing their homework and checking out the new
varieties, which is what makes them the best growers in the
business.” |
