Barenbrug USA is first U.S. commercial grass seed company to receive organic certification
Tangent, Oregon
November 15, 2005

Popular grass seed varieties now available as certified organic seed

Barenbrug USA is pleased to announce they have received the organic certification from the Oregon Tilth association. Barenbrug’s production facility received the certificate August 2, 2005. This certification designates Barenbrug USA as a processor of organic grass seed. In order to receive the certification there were a number of procedures that had to be verified, including field designation, facility approval and handling procedures. Barenbrug sought the certification in a continuing effort to offer superior products to the farming community.

This certification allows Barenbrug further growth in the proprietary forage and turf seed business. It especially allows the company to grow and process seed designated for certified organic farms. So far, the grass seed industry has struggled to make certified organic grass seed available to organic producers.

This year already, Barenbrug offers certified organic seed of some of their most popular varieties: Mara – perennial ryegrass, Barolex – soft leafed tall fescue, Baridana – orchard grass and Alice – white clover.

Barenbrug sells seed through a nationwide network of superior distributors and dealers. Barenbrug support these distributors as well as end-users through professional area managers. Visit barusa.com to contact the nearest forage area manager.

Barenbrug USA is a breeding, production and marketing company with a strategy to develop and market improved forage and turf seed.
