Great Lakes Hybrids announces two G3 hybrids with YieldGard VecTran technology: improved consistency, better insect control, higher yield potential
Ovid, Michigan
October 6, 2006

Great Lakes Hybrids is pleased to announce two G3™ hybrids powered by the new YieldGard® VT Triple™ technology, the next level of stacked trait performance.

These new hybrids (5711G3 and 6321G3) feature YieldGard VT Triple, the second generation in corn rootworm control, combined with Roundup Ready Corn 2 and YieldGard corn borer events.

VecTran technology is the more precise gene insertion process for producing hybrids that deliver greater stacked-trait performance with improved consistency, better insect protection and higher yield potential.

"For farmers, this will mean they get new, Generations Ahead™ G3 hybrids powered by YieldGard VT Triple for improved consistency, even better insect control and higher yield," said Mitch Ray, product manager. "Because we bypass the traditional breeding process, growers can get our elite germplasm with better, higher-yielding traits six to 12 months faster. When you combine this added efficiency with our doubled-haploid breeding program, the speed we can get new top-performing hybrids to market is staggering."

A huge benefit of these YieldGard VT products is that you get a stacked trait hybrid with a highly-active and a more consistent promoter of the rootworm gene. The promoter is a kind-of biotech switch that turns on the gene to produce the insect control protein and more effectively distribute it throughout the root system. Higher and more consistent levels of the protein are present in YieldGard VT roots to more effectively control corn rootworm pests. In other words, greater technology, with more powerful, more consistent root protection. This gives farmers better rootworm control in their fields.

Great Lakes Hybrids has been able to take this new YieldGard VT Triple trait and combine it into their own elite germplasm.

“Because Great Lakes’ research program is generations ahead of our competitors, we’re able to bring the latest top-performing technologies, in unique genetics, to our customers faster than anyone in the industry”, says general manager, Mike Stephenson. “The speed, efficiency and enhanced processes in our breeding program allow us to bring these new G3 with YieldGard VT Triple products to market for planting this spring.”

“The fact that we can introduce this technology in two of our top hybrids (5711 and 6321) is another testament to the power of our corn breeding program,” adds Ray. “These two genetics alone had 11 wins and 113 Top-10 finishes in the 2005 F.I.R.S.T. Trials. The 2006 performance is already looking like we might beat those numbers.”

5711G3 with YieldGard VT Triple is a 107-day hybrid featuring super yield performance, excellent root strength, very good drought tolerance and has deep kernels on a girthy, flexible ear. This product performs best at higher populations on any soil type in zones 5, 6 and the northern half of zone 7. Includes Poncho® 250 plus Trilex® FL fungicide.

6321G3 with YieldGard VT Triple is a 113-day product that is super for grain or silage. This hybrid exhibits solid stress tolerance and really excels in hotter conditions. Use 6321G3 withYieldGard VT Triple for no-till or continuous corn. It also has 18-20 rows of large, deep kernels. Excellent late-season health and appearance. Includes Poncho® 250 plus Trilex® FL fungicide.

These new G3 hybrids with YieldGard VT Triple technology are designated as Market Choices, which require proper grain handling. Please refer to www.KnowBeforeYouGrow.com for more information.

Always follow grain marketing and insect resistance management requirements, and read and follow pesticide label directions. Roundup Ready® crops contain genes that confer tolerance to glyphosate, the active ingredient in Roundup® agricultural herbicides. Roundup agricultural herbicides will kill crops that are not glyphosate tolerant.
