Dr Nur-E-Elahi,a renowned farming
system agronomist of the country promoted Director
Administration and Common Service of the
Bangladesh Rice Research
Institute (BRRI) on Thursday , 20 July 2006. Prior to the
new position, he was the Chief Scientific Officer and Head, Rice
Farming Systems Division of BRRI.
Dr Elahi joined BRRI as Scientific Officer in 1974 and
discharged his duties devotedly, holding different positions for
the last 33 years. He contributed lot to the food grain
production of the country by involving himself directly with the
development rice-based farming system technologies.
Dr Elahi was born in 1952 at the village of Jathrasidhii under
Sadar upazila Feni district. He obtained his BSc.Ag(Hons) and
MScAg degrees in Agronomy from the Bangladesh Agricultural
University in 1971 and 1972, respectively. He did his MS degree
in 1980 from the University of The Philippines at Los Banos and
PhD degree in 1991 from Cornell University, USA. He has 33
publications published in different journals at home and abroad,
5 books and more than 100 research articles.As a maize
affiliated scientist of The CIMMYT, he contributed to
development and promotion hybrid maize in Bangladesh.
During his 33 years carrier, he visited The Philippines, India,
China, Thailand, Nepal USA, Srilanka, Myanmar, Indonesia,
Pakistan and Vietnam.
Dr Elahi is married, and has one daughter. |
