Founded by growers with a
customer-first attitude
NC+ Hybrids, based in
Lincoln, Nebraska, will celebrate its 50th anniversary in 2008
and will begin to commemorate the event starting this summer and
fall at grower meetings and field trials.
NC+ was started in 1958 as a production and marketing
organization for farmers to work together as a group rather than
individuals to merchandise and grow seed. Today, NC+ serves
corn, soybean, grain sorghum and alfalfa producers across the
United States.
NC+'s original name was Nebraska Hybrid Seed Growers
Association, with the seed sold under the brand name NC+
Hybrids. The company's name was later changed to NC+ Hybrids.
Claire Porter, a research associate at the University of
Nebraska, originally suggested that growers should form the
organization to work together as a group, rather than
individuals, in merchandising and growing seed. The company was
officially registered and 56 growers were merchandising seed
under the NC+ brand. Porter served as the company's first
general manager.
Headquartered in Lincoln, NC+ is now a division of Channel Bio
Corp. and has more than 100 employees and more than 1,500 sales
representatives across the country.
"While we celebrate our 50-year heritage, our focus is always on
the future and providing leading-edge seed technology to help
our customers prosper," says Doug Gloystein, NC+ operations
manager. "Our founders were visionary in how they approached the
production and marketing of seed and we carry that same
visionary spirit with us every day as we look to the future of
seed genetics and technology."
Added Jeff Dilbeck, NC+ national sales manager, "NC+ saw its
biggest growth in history in 2007, with a 47 percent increase in
corn seed sales. This is a result of our long-standing tradition
of understanding grower needs, being customer focused and
willing to put boots on the farm."
With access to leading genetics and technology traits, NC+
independently markets the NC+ brand of seed corn, soybeans,
grain sorghum, forage sorghum, sudangrass and alfalfa as a
division of Channel Bio Corp. For more information, visit
