DuPont today announced that the U.S. Environmental
Protection Agency has granted a section 18 quarantine exemption
for the use of DuPont Punch™ fungicide to control Asian soybean
rust on soybeans in Minnesota and South Dakota. These are the
first two states to receive approval; 17 other states have also
requested a section 18 emergency exemption for Punch™.
"Soybean rust is highly
destructive. Punch™ gives U.S. soybean farmers a significant new
tool in producing cost-effective soybean crops," said James C.
Collins, Jr., vice president and general manager - DuPont Crop
Protection. "Its curative and preventive characteristics are
consistent with our longstanding objective of delivering
environmentally sustainable solutions to customers."
Punch(TM) contains the active
ingredient flusilazole, a triazole registered in 40 countries.
Over the past several years, soybean growers in South America
have benefited from its superior control, which helped improve
yields, and its excellent crop safety characteristics. Punch™
rapidly penetrates leaves, protecting against new infections and
stopping existing infections before they can spread. Continuous
disease protection is provided
for up to three weeks. Punch™ can be used alone or in tank
mixtures with strobilurin products.
Punch™ is not registered for sale
or use in the United States and may only be used in accordance
with the specific provisions, restrictions, and limitations in
the section 18 label in approved states. The label must be in
possession of the user at the time of application. For more
