DuPont today announced that the U.S. Environmental
Protection Agency (EPA) has approved experimental use permits
(EUP) for both DuPont™ Altacor™ and DuPont™ Coragen™
insecticides for use on 10 fruit and vegetable crops in 16
states, including California, Florida and Texas.
Both products are based on Rynaxypyr™, a new crop protection
chemistry from DuPont with high efficacy in controlling target
pests at low use rates.
“This is a significant step for DuPont and our customers because
the Experimental Use Permit gives us the opportunity to generate
use and performance data in commercial agricultural programs and
takes us a step closer to launching these products next year,”
said James C. Collins, Jr. , vice president and general manager
– DuPont Crop Protection . “We look forward to providing
customers new technology that offers reliable and consistent
pest control combined with a very favorable environmental
profile, consistent with our objective of delivering innovations
that advance sustainable agricultural production.”
The trials will provide DuPont the opportunity to evaluate these
products in large scale tests and will permit cooperators an
opportunity to experience the benefits of these products. Under
the EUP, growers will be able to harvest their crops treated
with these products.
The EUP for DuPont™ Altacor™ will enable registered cooperators
to apply the product to apples and pears for protection against
damaging pests including codling moth, oriental fruit moth and
obliquebanded leafroller. The EUP for DuPont™ Coragen™ will
include trials on celery, cucumbers, lettuce, peppers, spinach,
squash, tomato and watermelon crops to control a wide spectrum
of worm pests and leafminer.
Research studies confirm that both Altacor™ and Coragen™ have
demonstrated exceptional and long-lasting control of a wide
spectrum of pests. Both products are highly potent on target
species at low use rates, delivering excellent crop protection
as a result of rapid feeding inhibition. Altacor™ and Coragen™
contain Rynaxypyr™, a new active ingredient from DuPont.
Rynaxypyr™ offers a novel mode of action and is proven to have
minimal impact on beneficial insects and extraordinarily low
toxicity to mammals, birds and fish, making the products an
excellent fit for integrated pest management programs.
In January, DuPont submitted registration applications for
Altacor™ and Coragen™ to regulatory authorities in the United
States, European Union, Australia and Canada. These authorities
are piloting a Work Share project under the auspices of the
Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD)
aimed at an accelerated review and approval timeline and
regulatory harmonization.
