Jim Groepper ended his year-long
term as president of the Iowa Seed Association at the group’s
105th annual meeting held recently in Ames, Iowa. The
AgVenture, Inc. Vice
President Marketing and Sales handed the gavel to Dave Treinen
of Kruger Seed Company who will serve as ISA president for 2008.
Groepper said, “It has been a great year working with Iowa’s
seed professionals and industry champions. The seed industry is
at an exciting point of accelerating its momentum thanks to the
combination of great minds, with marked advancements in science,
genetics and technologies.” He continued, “Our ability to work
together with both private and public entities, and as industry
partners will determine our success in our endeavors to provide
food, fiber and fuel to our growing world.” Groepper will now
serve on the board of the association.
One of the highlights of his tenure as president was presenting
the 2007 Honorary ISA Member Award at the convention to Dr.
Manjit Misra, professor of agricultural biosystems engineering
and director of the Seed Science Center at Iowa State
University. Groepper reported, “Dr. Misra’s work at the Seed
Science Center and throughout his career has been both
comprehensive and influential. His passion for the industry is
so willingly shared – effectively inspiring leadership and
proficiency in our industry. He is in good company among the
distinguished men and women previously so honored by ISA.
The ISA focuses on legislative and regulatory issues facing the
Iowa seed industry, and supports members with communication and
education initiatives. As an affiliate of the American Seed
Trade Association, ISA works closely with the national
organization. Gropper concluded, “I look forward to a new year
of growth for ISA. We intend to continue our mission and build
our membership.”
