Nunhems USA partners with customers to co-sponsor Produce First! event

Products from Grimmway Farms and River Point Farms inspire new recipes.

Nunhems USA partnered this week with Grimmway Farms and River Point Farms to co-sponsor the “Produce First! American Menus Initiative”, an event that brings together culinary professionals from around the nation to explore new ways of making fruits and vegetables more readily available to consumers. Colored carrots from Grimmway Farms and onions from River Point Farms, both utilizing Nunhems’ genetics, will be among the vegetables featured at the event.

A collaborative effort between the Produce for Better Health Foundation, The Culinary Institute of America (CIA), and several leading food industry organizations and companies, Produce First! provided a unique opportunity for executive chefs and other experts to learn about industry trends as well as cooperatively experiment with recipe development. Representatives from top chain restaurants, volume foodservice companies, hotels, and supermarkets all attended.

“Produce First! provides a setting where the industry’s best can experience and become educated on new vegetable possibilities in a practical, hands-on environment,” said Jennifer Armen-Bolen, Downstream Marketing Manager for Nunhems. “Just as importantly, it allows Grimmway Farms and River Point Farms to showcase their unique and versatile products grown from Nunhems’ seed.”

For Nunhems, a leading global seed supplier, co-sponsoring Produce First! is a way to support both their customers and broader industry-wide efforts to encourage healthier eating. It is also an example how the company works to acquire and share knowledge across the entire supply chain that can be used to benefit its customers’ sales and marketing efforts, along with its own research and development.

“Consumers are increasingly demanding more flavor and more choice in every meal,” Armen-Bolen said. “But restaurants, foodservice companies and supermarkets can only deliver that if Nunhems’ and other seed suppliers work hard to understand the marketplace and develop innovative products that will keep pace with consumer demand.”

All of the recipes, including those featuring Grimmway Farms’ colored carrots and River Point Farms’ onions, developed at the ProduceFirst! event will be available through the Produce First! American Menus Initiative report. To request a copy of this report contact the Produce for Better Health Foundation at 302-235-2329.
