Northstar Genetics signs distribution agreement with Semican

Northstar Genetics today announces an agreement with Québec-based Semican to grow and distribute Roundup Ready® soybeans in Québec and Eastern Canada.

"We are very pleased to announce this new agreement with Semican", said Dan Hogstad, President of Northstar. "Their strong cereal-based seed program is uniquely positioned to readily market our brand of RR soybeans to their customers."

"Our very strong position in Western Canada, mainly Manitoba, allos us to bring a very strong genetic lineup to Eastern Canada," continued Hogstadt. "we are aggressively pursuing additional registrations in increasingly later maturities to accomodate Semican's planned growth."

Jacques Beauchesne, Semican's owner, said that "We are excited to access Northstar's lineup of RR beans that have tested very well in our trials. As RR beans grown in marketshare here in Québec, we plan to take a leadership position providing outstanding genetics to our growers."

Northstar Genetics, a regional seed company based in Southern Minnesota, offers RR soybeans to growers in Minnesota, South Dakota, North Dakota and Manitoba through its subsidiary Northstar Genetics Manitoba.

Beauchesne was one of the 2007 recipients of the Canadian Agri-Foods Awards of Excellence for the expansion of his sales and export business.

Semican is a family-owned seed company based in Plessisville, Québec.
