2008-09 Canada Western Red
Spring (CWRS) Fusarium program
The Canada Western Red Spring (CWRS) fusarium program is a
delivery contract for farmers with CWRS that grades No. 2, 3, or
4 in all respects but contains high levels of fusarium. This
program is designed to address the challenge of marketing grain
affected by fusarium head blight and improve returns for
producers who have CWRS containing fusarium. The program offers
100 per cent acceptance and a delivery guarantee over three
delivery periods during the crop year.
Program details
Sign-up begins October 8, 2008 and is on a first-come,
first-served basis until the beginning of November or until the
program is filled. The CWB reserves the right to withdraw the
offer or extend the deadline date.
Under the program, you will be eligible to receive payment for
No. 2 CWRS minus a discount based on fusarium levels over the
one per cent tolerance allowed under the Canadian Grain
Commission (up to a maximum of two per cent). For grain that
grades No. 3 or 4, your payment will reflect a discount based on
fusarium levels between two and five per cent. The discount will
be applied on the difference between the actual and allowable
fusarium levels. The maximum allowable fusarium level for No. 2
CWRS is one per cent and the maximum allowable fusarium level
for Nos. 3 and 4 CWRS is two per cent.
For example, a producer delivering No. 2 CWRS with 1.5 per cent
fusarium would see an additional 0.5 per cent dockage (1.5% -
1%) off his net tonnes delivered.
It is important to note that the discount applied to the 2008-09
CWRS fusarium program reflects the lower ratio of DON to
fusarium that has been observed in CWRS versus CWRW. It also
reflects the availability of greater blending opportunities.
The CWB will offer higher fusarium delivery opportunities for
No. 2 CWRS later in the crop year as market opportunities arise.
Producers can sign up for this program through CWB e-Services,
by contacting their local CWB Farm Business Representative (FBR)
or elevator agent, or by calling the CWB Business Centre at
1-800-275-4292 with the personal identification number (PIN).
Note: This program is available only to farmers with high
fusarium CWRS. The CWB reserves the right to request a sample of
any grain grown outside of previously identified
fusarium-affected regions.
2008-09 Canada Western Red
Winter (CWRW) fusarium program
The Canada Western Red Winter (CWRW) fusarium program is a
delivery contract for No. 2 CWRW with fusarium levels between
2.1 and 3.5 per cent. This program is designed to address the
challenge of marketing grain affected by fusarium head blight
and improve returns for producers who have No. 2 CWRW containing
fusarium. The program guarantees 100 per cent acceptance and
delivery by Friday, November 28, 2008. Producers are expected to
deliver 100 per cent of the tonnes committed to the program.
Program details
Sign-up has been extended to October 10, 2008.
You will be eligible to receive payment for a No. 2 CWRW, minus
a discount based on fusarium levels between 2.1 and 3.5 per
cent. The discount for higher levels of fusarium has a weighting
factor of 3 to better reflect the increasing proportion of DON
to fusarium that has been observed in the past several years.
This weighting factor will be applied on the difference between
the actual and allowable fusarium levels The maximum allowable
fusarium level for No. 2 CWRW is two per cent.
For example, a producer delivering grain with 3.5 per cent
fusarium would see 4.5 per cent taken off the tonnes delivered.
Calculation would be:
((3.5 %-2 %)*3) net of dockage.
Producers can sign up for this program through CWB e-Services,
