Syngenta Crop Protection Canada, Inc. announces the launch
of a new website called “The Great Canadian Stand™”. The website
offers comprehensive information on best practices for crop
management, including video commentary from well-known experts,
in one user-friendly environment.
The Great Canadian Stand is a Syngenta project that encourages
growers and agronomists to ‘take a stand’ on producing better
yields while being good stewards of the land. It encourages a
‘total approach’ to crop production, including crop
establishment, pest management and harvest, to prevent problems
such as resistance and make the land better for present and
future generations. The Great Canadian Stand is the cornerstone
of the Syngenta commitment to stewardship and sustainable
agriculture.
The website follows the 2008 launch of the Great Canadian Stand
Interactive Tool – a CD ROM specifically designed as a learning
and teaching tool for agronomists.
“Syngenta is committed to helping producers get the most out of
the land while employing sustainable agronomic practices,” says
Jason Pickering, Agronomic Brand Manager, Syngenta. “We expect
the website will become an indispensible tool for producers,
retailers and agronomists who wish to learn and share best
practices.”
The website is unusual in its depth of information and resources
on the topic of crop management. “We saw a need for an
accessible, easy-to-use comprehensive source on crop management,
to provide producers with all the information they are looking
for in one central place,” says Pickering. “We are delighted to
offer video commentary from agronomic experts Dr. Hugh Beckie,
Dr. Linda Hall, Dr. Gary Martens and Dr. Bruce Murray, as well
as access to a vast array of scientific research and best
practices.”
For example, the website’s section on best practices for crop
establishment includes information on:
o Seed Quality
o Seed Size
o Seed Treatments
o Crop/Variety Selection
o Crop Rotation
o Seedbed Preparation
o Seeding Date
o Seeding Rate
o Seeding Depth
o Row Spacing
o Fertility
The site also contains an
extensive pest library with information on diseases, insects and
weeds as they pertain to a range of crops, including barley,
canola, pulses and wheat. Expert Q&As, downloads and videos
provide further resources to this in-depth information source.
The site will be updated regularly with topical and timely
information throughout the growing season.
