Referring
to the previously made statements and according to an
individually accomplished evaluation of economic efficiency
Euro Grass recommends the
cultivation of the Italian ryegrass varieties FABIO or TARANDUS
as preceding crop to maize.
The grasses should be sown with a seed quantity of 45 kg/ha
right after the harvest of barley or wheat. Depending on the
sowing date a first usage for fodder purposes can be possible in
autumn.
FABIO and TARANDUS, both tetraploid varieties, either one showed
a very good performance in official trials in Germany.
For the biogas production the high dry matter yield is a first
choice criterion. Both varieties reach very high yields
especially in the first cut.
TARANDUS has advantages in Southern Germany, the variety was the
second best in the Bavarian LSV 2002 with a relative yield of
103 in the first cut (= 54 dt/ha DM). With its total dry matter
yield TARANDUS takes the first place far in front of the other
tested varieties.
FABIO is one of the big varieties in Germany. With a relatively
dry matter yield of 109 and 105 in recent testing years of the
official institutes in Northern Germany. FABIO achieved the
highest dry matter yields in the first cut and shows its
suitability for this cultivation system.
