The Swedish group
Svalöf Weibull AB has sold
its shares in the Argentinean seed company
Sursem S.A. to a group of
senior employees of the same company.
On the 19th September
2001 a new board of directors was elected, representing the new
shareholders. Mr. Javier Mallo was elected the new President of
Sursem, replacing Mr. Curt Haglund.
The Svalöf Weibull Group is a
multinational seed company, with its headquarters in Sweden. The
group is owned 40% by the German group BASF (BASF Plant Science
Holding GmbH) and 60% by the Swedish group Svenska Lantmännen
(the Swedish Farmers’ Supply and Crop Marketing Association).
The strategy of Svalöf Weibull is oriented toward the northern
hemisphere. The group has its strength in cereal seed and
rapeseed, where Svalöf Weibull is one of the leading seed
providers worldwide.
Sursem S.A. is a fully-fledged
Argentinean seed company, with its head office in Pergamino and
with storage and processing facilities in Gahan. Sursem produces
and markets their own hybrids of maize and sunflower seed
through a network of sales agents and distributors. The company
also sells sorghum seed as well as rapeseed. The rapeseed
varieties and hybrids are developed, produced and sold based on
existing long-term agreements with Svalöf Weibull.
The change in shareholding does
not imply any change in the management structure of Sursem S.A.,
expect for the change of presidency. The business relation with
Svalöf Weibull will continue as well as other contracts and
agreements with private or governmental organisations. This will
assure a continuous flow of high quality products for the
clients of Sursem. A mutual aim between the parties is the
development of the rapeseed market in Argentina. Mr. Haglund
will remain in Argentina until August 2002, available to the
Management of Sursem as an advisor.
