E-Markets, Croplan Genetics, Land O'Lakes launch Internet-based agricultural input electronic commerce site
Ames, Iowa
November 16, 1999

Croplan Genetics and E-Markets, Inc. have announced the launch of an Internet-based agricultural input order site. The site, named SOAR21, is now being used for the second year to create and manage seed orders for the 2000 season. It ties the seed order process directly to real-time supply availability as well as to selected crop protection products. E-Markets' NetOrder application serves as the platform for the site.

In addition, Users this year are able to enter, access, and analyze plot yield data. Users have the
on-line tools for comparing yields and other performance measures across Croplan Genetics products as well as competitive products. The site has several thousand entries available for comparison.

"We are pleased to work with E-Markets and support the continued development of a platform for
electronic commerce in agriculture,'' said Dave Bowser, Director of Seed Operations at Croplan
Genetics. "This technology represents a foundation for new and better coordination in the agricultural distribution system. SOAR21 allows us to more effectively manage our business, and with access to real-time information, we are more efficient and enabled to serve our customers.''

Croplan Genetics is the seed marketing division of Land O'Lakes, Inc.. Last month, Land O'Lakes, Inc., Farmland Industries, and Cenex/Harvest States announced the signing of a letter of intent which would establish a new seed marketing structure for the three producer-owned cooperatives. Projected annual sales for the expanded seed operation, which will serve producers in 29 states, are $300 million. The new seed structure will result in a unified seed system that is among the top-five U.S. seed companies in soybeans, corn, and wheat.

E-Markets is the online marketplace for the agricultural community; it is a hub for agricultural
electronic commerce and the exchange of ideas, news and relevant information for those involved in agribusiness. E-Markets connects buyers and sellers of agricultural products and provides access to detailed, up-to-the-minute market information through the Internet, helping both groups make better, more informed and more profitable business decisions.
