Great Lakes Hybrids leads National Corn Yield Contest in the 1990s
Ovid, Michigan
December 28, 1999

Great Lakes Hybrids, the leading seed company in the National Corn Growers Association's Corn Yield Contest, has produced more winners per entry in the 1990s than any other company in the Midwest.

"Our worldwide genetic research program has created top-performing hybrids that have proven themselves in an outstanding fashion in this elite, national arena in each of the past 10 years," said Mike Stephenson, president of Great Lakes Hybrids.

"In that time span, we've produced a higher winning percentage than companies like Pioneer, DeKalb and Novartis."

Since 1990, Great Lakes Hybrids produced 537 entries in the NCGA Corn Yield Contest, with 101 achieving the yields necessary to become state champions (in the Midwestern corn-growing states). A Great Lakes' hybrid has won more than 18.8 percent of the time. Great Lakes has also celbrated national champions in the 1990's. The table below shows how the rest of the top companies in the industry stack up by winning percentage:

"Midwestern farmers demand performance, and the Great Lakes Hybrids lineup has proven itself in an elite, national competition for the past 10 years."

The NCGA Corn Yield Contest is an annual national competition among corn producers with the goal of producing the highest yields. Growers compete within a broad range of corn production classes.

Great Lakes Hybrids is affiliated with KWS in Germany, a seed-only company, and has research stations in Michigan, Illinois, Minnesota, Iowa and Puerto Rico.
