To support that challenge, the Seeds Research and Development team is currently seeking a Digital Prospecting and Collaborations Head, located in Raleigh, North Carolina. As the Head of Digital Prospecting and Collaborations, you will lead the global strategy for digital prospecting, collaborations, and competitor bench marking.

You will help shape the future of agriculture by:

  • Leading the global strategy for digital prospecting, collaborations, and competitor bench marking, including partner selection and scope of collaborations for seeds Research and Development.
  • Engaging in negotiations with potential collaboration partners and partner with Syngenta Mergers and Acquisitions, ventures, licensing and legal to draft business cases and term sheets and definitive agreements.
  • Developing digital prospecting, collaborations, and competitor bench marking strategy to optimize value both from our existing global digital portfolio and maximizing opportunities to generate incremental value from all potential acquisitions and collaborations.
  • Implementing the digital prospecting, collaborations, and competitor bench marking strategy, ensures that all key deliverables and milestones of the acquisition and collaboration agreements are met, and works to prioritize resources across our digital acquisition and collaboration portfolio.
  • Analyzing competitor and potential partner digital landscape and developing and maintaining a risk and opportunity profile for each to achieve and maintain leadership in data sciences and analytics.
Accountabilities
  • Partner with Head of Data Sciences & Analytics to drive vision, strategy, priorities, and actions for Syngenta Seeds Development to achieve and maintain leadership in data-driven decisions enabling development and commercial launch success of superior seeds products.
  • Ensure alignment, support and engagement across Seeds R&D for the vision and strategy.
  • Maintain effective connection with corporate digital transformation efforts in Syngenta, and related Data Science and Analytics programs in R&D and commercial.
  • Represent Syngenta in relevant external events to support the awareness of Syngenta as a digital leader.
  • Maintain external connections and collaborations with leading computational scientists, for the exploration of advanced computational methods.
  • Responsible for monitoring progress against milestones and resource use and driving metric based project decision processes across our digital prospecting, collaborations, and competitor bench marking portfolio.
  • Develop and deliver regular updates to internal Syngenta stakeholders and governance bodies regarding status and progress of breeding digital prospecting, collaborations, and competitor bench marking.
  • Ensure identification, assessment, and management of key risks in digital prospecting, collaborations, and competitor bench marking projects and programs.

Qualifications

Requirements
  • Minimum 10 years of experience working in seed biotech industry
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in global research and development environment
  • PhD in Agronomy, Plant Breeding or Genetics or relevant field
Preferred Requirements
  • Experience in the development, utilization and deployment of digital tools in plant breeding
  • Experience in development of strategic plans and contractual agreements
  • Experience in technology prospecting and managing technology collaborations
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully influence colleagues across functional boundaries
  • Effective time management, with the ability to successfully plan and control activities over months or years
  • Experience working successfully in international and multidisciplinary project team environment
