Our global team of experts and state-of-the-art research facilities enable us to work side-by-side with growers to provide the most regionally relevant and reliable vegetable seeds available

Job description

Assist Breeding Program as determined by manager in all aspect of field trial design, planting, evaluation, database, and inventory management. The successful candidate will supervise farm and greenhouse crews and collaborate closely with other employees including greenhouse and open field Operation team, plant pathologist, molecular biologist, product development specialist, and sale representatives.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Assisting breeding programs in field trial design, planting, curation, trial evaluating and seed harvest.
  • Ability to travel domestic and internationally 15% to 20% a year.
  • Ability to select in program germplasm under the direction of the breeder.
  • Supervise field and greenhouse crew in seeding, transplanting, pollination, crossing blocks, and seed harvest.
  • Manage breeding data base, including Lot creation, planting list, data integration with other proprietary software.
  • Manage seed inventory and shipments for multiple domestic and international locations.
  • Manage seed health testing data and sample collection.
  • Manage molecular marker tissue sampling projects based on breeding program needs.
  • Interact and collaborate with plant pathologist, molecular biologist in project submission, execution, result tracking, sample collection and data entry.
  • Manage/maintain phytosanitary quarantine process records, databases, and information.
  • Interact with parent seed manager in parent seed production and seed quality assurance.
  • Work closely with greenhouse and field operations and labor management to ensure good plant health to meet desired goals.
  • Receive and distribute seeds for seed production, variety trials, product development and marketing etc.

Profile

Education & work experience required:

  • B.S. in Plant Science and related Horticulture degrees.
  • 2-3 years of experience working in agricultural research.
  • Working experience in seed industry.
  • Working knowledge in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Power Point.
  • Ability to learn new databases and other analytical software.
  • Spanish language skill is a plus.
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally.
