Job Description –

Position is responsible to support the development of new watermelon and squash hybrid varieties targeting segments defined by company strategy and priorities and using appropriate genetic resources while following the best technologies and methods available.

Position Activities –

  • Support the breeder with the strategies and genetic improvement steps to create new varieties utilizing breeding stations and available screening sites
  • Supervise field and greenhouse crew performing all breeding tasks, including but not limited to seeding, tissue sampling, transplanting, pollinating, harvesting and seed extraction.
  • Support establishment, data collection and harvest of trials
  • Evaluate genetic material for phenotypical characteristics and improvement
  • Manage seed health testing, seed inventory update and seed shipments as requested by the breeder
  • Support and collaborate within the Lark Seeds breeding team for maximum efficiency and development of germplasm
  • Support the efficient use available resources
  • Maintain or support the breeding database

Requirements –

  • M.Sc. or B.Sc. with 3 years of experience in Plant Science or related field
  • Experience in vegetable breeding
  • Strong background in plant breeding, genetics, field plot technique, statistics and molecular marker applications
  • Willing and able to travel 10-15% of the time

Preferred –

  • Fluent in Spanish
  • Experience working with squash and watermelon
