You will help shape the future of agriculture by:
- Using agronomic expertise and collaborating with production teams to identify opportunities that drive yield and seed quality improvements in corn seeds production
- Designing, executing, and analyzing experiments to support production recommendations, and implementation of new technologies in seeds production
- Contributing to the development and implementation of the North America SPR (Seeds Production Research) strategy in collaboration with the global SPR team
- Driving innovation and influencing changes that benefit the seed supply chain and farmers while making agriculture environmentally more sustainable
Accountabilities
- Support the development and execution of a Field Technology project portfolio. It includes effective alignment with stakeholders, successful execution, and communication of results and recommendations
- Coordinate day-to-day research and farming activities and manage personnel workload and task assignments at the research site
- Lead and assist with experimental design and trial creation. This involves identifying relevant research projects, determining seed/agricultural product entry lists, and making all necessary preparations to ensure experiment completion
- Assist with hiring, managing and developing part-time workers
- Manage research activities of contract staff. This includes prioritizing tasks, assigning workloads, and coordination of data collection activities
- Collaborate with other internal teams (SPR Parent Characterization, Parent Seeds, Production) to execute projects and develop production best practices
- Analyze data and prepare research reports and presentations. Interpret analysis and develop presentations for functional customers
- Support the SPR NA team with the elaboration and communication of production recommendations to the production team
- Maintain awareness of competitive developments and key technologies in the seed production and adjacent industries, along with external technology institutions to ensure that innovations are identified, evaluated, and implemented
- Use and promote Lean Six Sigma within SPR and Seeds Operations to drive productivity
- Promote field technology and agronomy knowledge sharing across regions/sites/crops
- Ensure full HSE compliance and promote environmentally sustainable solutions
- Representation of Syngenta: Builds trust inside the company and in the local community showing ethical considerations. Ensure Syngenta values are reflected in company activities, and effectively promote SPR with customers and stakeholders
Qualifications
- Graduate education/degree preferred but can be supplemented with significant relevant experience
- Seeds production knowledge across a range of crops required (3 years of industry experience)
- Thorough understanding of experimental design and statistical analysis
- Appreciation of statistical or modeling approaches
- Organization, planning, pro-activity and reactivity leadership, flexibility and availability
- Impactful communication, open-minded, with an aptitude to develop easy contacts with all customers
- Cross functional and multi-cultural project management aptitude
- LEAN Six Sigma certification desired
- Role will require travels
- Requires occasional lifting of up to 60 pounds during the physically demanding growing season
- Exposure to inclement weather conditions while working outside
- 40% of work performed in standard office
- 60% of work performed at production locations, field or meetings
