Molecular Biology Laboratory Manager (m/f)

Location: Uchaud, France


Full-time permanent position

Context

Sakata Vegetables Europe is a subsidiary of Sakata Seed Corporation (Japan) is responsible for the development and expansion of the activities across the EMEA area. With our wide array of vegetable seeds, we want to create a confidence-based relationship with our customers though our motto of Quality, Reliability and Service.

Missions

Under the management of the Head of research laboratories EMEA, based in South Africa, the position holder will be located in Uchaud (between Nimes and Montpellier) in France and lead the local molecular biology laboratory team in all activities in a multidisciplinary and multicultural environment.

The main responsibilities will include:

Management & Organization

  •  Responsible for the implementation of the molecular biology laboratory strategy at Uchaud
  •  Identify, manages and coordinates needs (new techniques and technology) within the Molecular Biology laboratory
  •  Responsible for cost center budget preparation and management
  •  Organize, implement and execute assigned Molecular Biology laboratory projects within the framework of the project plan, budget and timeframe

People Management

  •  Leading the local team
  •  Manage appraisals, training and develop the team by using HR instruments, guidelines, and procedures
  •  Drive knowledge-sharing and teamwork within the team
  •  Empower the collaborators to work in a compliant way (respect of HQS processes, phytosanitary itinerary, etc)

Laboratory Activities

  •  Manage and participate in all molecular biology laboratory activities
  •  Manage and drive the high throughput genotyping platform
  •  Develop of processes and procedures in our QMS framework
  •  Promote, strengthen and propose the development of scientific partnerships (internal + external)
  •  Exchange relevant scientific information within the Molecular Biology group

Profile

  • We are searching for a hands-on candidate with a master’s degree or PhD in molecular biology / plant science / agriculture or similar with a minimum experience of 5-10 years in a similar position in the seed industry.
  • Experience in molecular marker design, experimental and statistical techniques, plant genetic improvements and people management is necessary will be required.
  • The position requires strong organizational and analytical skills as well and a strong ability to deal with an international environment. The incumbent need to be autonomous, reliable, manage and develop people. In addition, a good sense of service and being able to deal with deadlines are essential. To succeed in this position, it is essential to know how to communicate in a multicultural context and have a very good level of English, both written and spoken.
