Plant Pathology Associate

Location: Lebanon, Indiana, USA

Responsibilities

  • Play a key role in a molecular breeding program with focus on accurately characterizing our germplasm for a number of diseases to then select for resistance.
  • Participate in seasonal cycles from seed preparation through nursery harvest.
  • Develop a familiarity with corn diseases, key germplasm, and breeding techniques.
  • Ensure that the team is trained and compliant with all safety policies and procedures
  • Some travel to company meetings, out-of-state trials, winter nurseries, and occasional conferences.
  • Responsibilities may be revised as needed by the Native Traits Genetics Manager and/or Director of Plant Breeding Technology either verbally and/or in writing.

Qualifications and Required Skills / Experience:

  • BS in plant pathology, plant sciences, agronomy, or a related field.
  • Skilled in plant pathology, including pathogen culture, inoculation, visual rating, etc.
  • Proficiency with database applications, and spreadsheet software.
  • Highly self-motivated, detail-oriented, and innovative. Ability to work effectively in interdisciplinary teams. Excellent leadership and people skills.
  • Able to work under field conditions in trials and nurseries and lift 25 lbs.
  • Ability to write and speak in English fluently.

Desired Skills / Experience:

  • Exposure to basic molecular marker data analysis for marker assisted selection.
  • Minimum 2 years of applicable experience. • Knowledge and experience in field operations and agronomy.
  • Knowledge of plant breeding, genetics, statistics, and/or molecular markers is a plus.
  • Record of innovation and process improvement in an applied breeding program.
