Associate Breeder, Cucumber

Location: Almeria, Spain

Together with the Breeder you will be responsible for developing commercially successful varieties of Cucumbers and present the technological image of Bayer Crop Science Vegetable Seeds by designing and executing a process of continuous variety creation and development. In this position you will represent the Breeder in setting up and executing the Breeding program.

Under the supervision of the breeder you will be responsible for:

  • Designing and implementing new technologies and Breeding methods.
  • Drawing up trial data in filing system, preparing summary reports, giving feedback, making proposals and drawing conclusions about the breeding program.
  • Implementing, analyzing, interpreting and documenting autonomously breeding/disease trials and their results.
  • Managing and executing the increase and maintenance of the stock seeds.
  • Developing and maintaining broad vision on the market demands and translate market demands into breeding goals.

Your Qualifications:

  • MSc in plant breeding, genetics or phytopathology.
  • Working knowledge of: horticultural practices and procedures, genetics, plant breeding and in application of molecular marker technology and phytopathology.
  • 5 or more years of experience in plant breeding.
  • Functional competencies: strong organizer, flexible thinking, creative (out of the box), pro-active, works independently, accurate and strong personality.
  • Communication skills. Fluency in English is a must.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and a team player.
  • Computer skills: management information systems, databases, spread sheets.
  • Willingness to travel.
