BrettYoung announces new investment in automated seed processing

Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada
November 16, 2020

Brett-Young Seeds Limited is pleased to announce that they have broken ground on a substantial expansion of the company’s seed handling and processing capabilities at its Winnipeg, Manitoba headquarters. This investment enhances BrettYoung’s ability to satisfy the needs of its seed production partners and meet end-use customer demand for its improved seed varieties. The investment, which is notably the largest capital investment in BrettYoung’s history, will add over 60,000 sq. ft. devoted to receiving, storing, cleaning, processing, and packaging turf grass seed.

“This expansion significantly improves our capacity to expedite the timely receiving and processing of the turf grasses our seed production partners invest in, and our wholesale customers depend on.” says Cory Baseraba, Chief Operating Officer at BrettYoung. “Along with the other recent additions BrettYoung has made, such as in new bulk seed storage capacity, a seed storage warehouse, and a state-of-the-art seed coating and treating facility, it allows us to meet growing demand for improved turf varieties with the increased level of services our customers have come to expect.”

“The Board enthusiastically supports this plan which is a direct reflection of our ongoing commitment to provide value added products and industry leading service” said Lloyd Dyck, Chairman of the Board at BrettYoung. “We believe an investment of this magnitude in a time of so much uncertainty demonstrates our continued commitment to our long-standing seed grower partners and confidence in the markets we serve.”

The project is expected to be complete in Fall of 2021.
