Research Scientist for sugar beet breeding and genetics (m/f/d)

To expand our scientific team in the area of sugar beet breeding in our subsidiary in Schlanstedt, Germany, we are seeking for an initial period of two years with the aim to turn it into a permanent position on a full time basis (40 hours/week) a Research Scientist for sugar beet breeding and genetics (m/f/d).
Your job description:
- Responsible for a part of the sugar beet breeding program
- Methodical evaluation and critical analysis of the phenotypic data from fields and greenhouses for selection
- Calculation and Interpretation of genotypic marker data for selection
- Analyses and interpretation of genetic distance and genomic selection data
- Optimization of breeding schemes for traits improvement (e.g. enhance resistance to pests and diseases)
- Attendance for travelling in Germany and in Europe (mainly France and Italy)
- Scientific support of research projects in quantitative genetics and bioinformatics in collaboration with several private and public organizations
- Collaboration within an international team of breeders, researchers, and technicians
Requirements:
- PhD or M.Sc. with focus on plant breeding or animal breeding, quantitative genetics, agriculture, and related fields
- Good knowledge of R programming language and its use for data analysis
- Background in quantitative genetics or breeding
- Experience with the use of molecular markers for marker assisted selection
- Experience in the analysis of large dataset
- Ability to work accurately and systematically both in the office and in the field
- Ability to adapt to the seasonal fluctuations required for breeding and attendance for travelling
- Very good language skills of English and/or German
- Team player and excellent communication skills
- Driving license of type B
