To expand our scientific team in the area of sugar beet breeding in our subsidiary in Schlanstedt, Germany, we are seeking for an initial period of two years with the aim to turn it into a permanent position on a full-time basis (40 hours/week) a Breeder's Assistant Sugar Beet (m/f/d).
Your job description:
- Support on methodical evaluation and critical analysis of the phenotypic data from fields and greenhouses for selection
- Contribute to breeding material enhancement by planning, implementation, and assisting breeding activities in the sugar beet breeding program
- Interpretation of molecular marker results for selection
- Data collection and management
- Significant attendance for travelling in Germany and in Europe (mainly France and Italy)
- Ability to collaborate within and international team of breeders, scientists, and technicians and/or private or public partners
- Close contacts with colleagues within the department and other departments
- This position report to the Head of Sugar Beet Breeding
Requirements:
- M.Sc. or B.Sc. with focus on plant or animal breeding, plant genetics, agronomy, quantitative genetics, agriculture, and/or related fields
- Solid and practical knowledge in statistic and quantitative genetics and its use for selection is advantageous
- Practical experience with plant pathology, agronomy, breeding methodologies, use of molecular markers for MAS, and analysis of large dataset is a plus
- Ability to work accurately and systematically both in the office and in the field
- Ability to adapt to the seasonal fluctuations required for breeding and willingness to travel within Europe
- Familiar with the use of MS Office applications and interest in learning new software
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Very good language skills of English and/or German and interest in learning other languages is a plus
- Team player
- Driving license of type B
