Director of Research

Location: Geneseo, Illinois, USA

Wyffels Hybrids, Inc. is a leading, independently-owned, seed company. We develop, sell, produce and distribute hybrid seed corn throughout the heart of the Corn Belt. Located in Geneseo, Illinois, our employees are the center of our success, and our most highly valued asset.

Wyffels is currently searching for a Director of Research to join our team. This position will lead a team intensely focused on providing corn growers rapid access to stable, high-performance hybrids with advanced genetics and cutting-edge traits and technology.

The Director will develop, implement, monitor, and manage the corn breeding program. He/she will lead research activities designed to insure customer satisfaction, and meet company growth goals. This position is responsible for gathering technical data that will characterize, position, and manage corn hybrids for optimal performance with customers. This position will communicate the information to the Sales and Marketing departments for use in their activities.

It is important that the Director also develop and maintain associations with organizations that will or could potentially enhance company product development and its information base. The Director will report to the President and will be responsible for managing a team of employees with diverse responsibilities.

Qualifications include a Ph.D in Plant Breeding, or related field, with at least 10 years of successful plant breeding experience. Additional education/experience in plant and molecular biotechnology is a plus. Previous management experience required. This position will be based in our Geneseo, IL headquarters. Relocation assistance may be provided, as necessary. Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.

  • Ability to forecast and manage annual department budget
  • Excellent computer skills including the use of word processing, presentation, spreadsheet, database and statistical analysis software
  • Effective presentation skills
  • Strong work ethic and professionalism, ensuring the protection of intellectual property and confidentiality
