Research Technician

Location: Austin, Texas, USA

Sesaco Corporation, a subsidiary of Mitsubishi Corporation, is seeking a highly motivated Research Technician.

In 2011, Sesaco became a subsidiary of Mitsubishi Corporation and set its goal to make innovations in the world sesame trading structure by organizing the value chains with the best varieties and MC’s world network.

Sesaco is the only company in the world that has developed non-dehiscent and improved non-dehiscent sesame varieties via traditional breeding techniques. Sesaco varieties allow for mechanical harvesting, thereby making it economically feasible to grow in the United States. Traditional sesame varieties with known traits such as drought, heat, insect, and disease tolerance are now completely mechanized by Sesaco’s innovative breeding.

This is an excellent opportunity to work for a growing company that is already the world’s best breeder of mechanically harvested sesame.

 

Key Business Responsibilities

  • Assisting with all components of a successful commercial sesame breeding program. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • · Conducting all aspects of trial preparation, hybridizatizing, data collection, harvesting, and inventories in both field and lab environments.
  • · Inputting data into breeding databases.
  • · Creating and maintaining summaries, statistical analyses, graphical representations, and evaluations of data from several sites and over several years.
  • · Utilizing and maintaining research equipment such as planters, combines, lab equipment, etc.
  • · Supervising and training temporary or contract labor.
  • · Developing monthly and weekly summaries of related work and progress.
  • · Contributing to discussions of breeding objectives and strategies via regular communications with Plant Breeders.

 

Qualifications

The key qualifications of the successful candidate include, but are not limited to the following:

  • · BS or MS in Agronomy or related field.
  • · Excellent skills with Microsoft Office software: Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • · Experience with Data Base Management Systems such as FoxPro.
  • · Must be willing to travel.
  • · Strong organizational skills.
  • · Extremely good attention to detail.
  • · Excellent communication skills.
  • · Experience with farm equipment such as harvesters, tractors, planters, etc.
  • · On-farm experience (agronomic crops)
  • · Pesticide Applicator’s License preferred.

 

Place of work: Austin, TX.

Salary: DOE with benefits.
