The Laboratory Coordinator on the Qualitative Team is responsible for the timely and accurate preparation, execution, evaluation, recording, and posting of seed health tests for the detection of pathogens on seeds and plant tissue. Focus is on qualitative workflows (bacteriology, mycology, greenhouse grow outs). Provide training to Tech I – IV and temporary laborers in assigned work area. Assist in ISO compliance, improving testing methods, ensuring safety and assisting as needed with projects and issues. Performs some troubleshooting and root cause analysis in lab procedures as well as CAR/PAR correction, ESH program support, chemical waste management, continuous improvement project support and equipment calibration and verification.
Key Business Accountabilities:
- Function as the process expert of qualitative workflows (Bacteriology, Mycology, Growout) which includes contributing to troubleshooting and assuring data quality. Experience with conducting bacteriology and mycology assays, including techniques such as media, reagent and buffer preparation..
- Function as a team lead and coordinate daily activities of lab techs I-IV and temporary laborers
- Understand processes and procedures and accurately execute seed health protocols and relevant work instructions of the department.
- Quickly and accurately draft documents, protocols, work instructions, etc.
Required Education/Skills:
- BS/BA degree in Microbiology, Bacteriology, or related field.
- Two years experience in a Quality Assurance or Quality Control laboratory environment and demonstrated leadership experience.
- Must be detailed oriented and able to multitask and work in a fast paced environment that requires repetitive motion.
- Must be highly proficient in English with the ability to read, write, and speak effectively.
- Ability to effectively communicate and work with colleagues in a multicultural environment.
- Proficiency in basic computer programs such as Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, and Internet Explorer.
- Experience working with SAP, LIMS, and/or database applications is preferred.
- Experience with laboratory automation is highly preferred.
- This position requires periodic overtime work and work on weekends and holidays and the ability and flexibility to work and adapt to a variety of shift hours and fluctuating workloads and tasks.
Desired Education/Skills:
- Experience in DNA Extraction, PCR, and ELISA techniques is also desirable
