Seed Treatment Process Specialist

Location: St. Louis, Missouri, USA

Monsanto is seeking an exceptionally talented scientist to become an integral member of our multidisciplinary Chemistry Organization as a Seed Treatment Process Specialist. This role will have the responsibility for enabling commercial-scale production of seed treatment products by improving and developing processes through application laboratory and pilot-scale experimental work.

Responsibilities:

  • Design and develop seed treatment processes to apply seed treatment formulations to seeds that maintain or improve upon treated seed characteristics and that are transferable to manufacturing.
  • Interface with key technical team members (production engineers/manufacturing technologists, analytical chemists, biologists, agronomists, statisticians).
  • Act as a liaison with internal and external customers and provide technical reports and presentations to diverse audiences.
  • Limited travel to Monsanto field testing and manufacturing sites to support testing and commercialization of products and processes may be required.

Required Skills:

  • BS in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry or related field and 5+ years relevant process development experience
  • Direct experience with process development and scale-up
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong knowledge and experience with technology transfer, experimental design, and statistical methods
  • Ability to work on cross-functional and international teams and to prioritize and manage the demands from multiple projects

Desired skills:

  • MS in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry or related field of study with 3+ years relevant experience in process development
  • Experience in the food or pharmaceutical industries especially in application of coating technologies
  • Experience with agricultural product development
