Enza Zaden Research USA, Inc. in Myakka City, Florida is looking for a highly motivated, seed industry professional to join their research team.
Purpose of the position
Ensuring optimum progress of various productions in the greenhouse and the field, so as to provide a positive contribution to the plant breeding activities.
Summary of responsibilities:
- Preparing multi-year plan and annual budget.
- Supervising the execution of the activities.

Brief description of responsibilities and duties:
- Preparing multi-year plan and annual budget.
Draws up, under the responsibility of the Station Manager, a multi-year plan and/or objectives, including annual budget, for the production program (greenhouse and field). This will involve, for instance: utilization of space/greenhouse layout and technical facilities, taking account of current developments and needs of the plant breeding departments.
- Supervising the execution of the activities.
Supervising the execution of activities concerning crop care and harvesting. This involves, for instance: coordinating staff deployment, taking the capacities of staff members into account, giving instructions about methods and practices, supervising the execution of the work and suggesting corrections where necessary, solving problems and signalling irregularities (defects, diseases, etc), coaching, motivating and assessing staff members, arranging leave and responding to illness situations, monitoring and ensuring compliance with regulations with regard to order and working conditions.
- Other work with respect to production.
Keeps abreast of current developments in cultivation methods, systems, etc, puts forward proposals on investments and purchases, and suggests improvements based on daily practice.
Is responsible for the management and proper operation of greenhouses, equipment and systems.
Sets up and checks computer-controlled equipment, e.g. climate control, substrate computer, lighting, ventilation, etc.
Records and processes data on the activities undertaken, such as dates of sowing, spraying, etc.
Job profile:
Education / knowledge
Education or experience at Bachelor's level supplemented with proven leadership abilities. Has in depth knowledge of the various crops and keeps this knowledge up to date by visiting nurseries and plant growers and by studying professional literature. Has at least 3 years relevant work experience.
Skills
Excellent and clear communication skills, both written and verbal. Operates highly independently, is pragmatic and has a full measure of perseverance.
Independence
Performs the job/duties independently, under the responsibility of the Station Manager.
Contacts
Maintains intensive internal and external contacts. Chairs the periodic progress meetings with Group Leaders.
Leadership
Charged with daily supervision of Group Leaders and Crop Workers.
Working conditions
Works under pressure in greenhouses and the field under varying climatic conditions, some physical stress involved.
