To expand our scientific team in the area of sugar beet breeding in our subsidiary in Schlanstedt, Germany, we are seeking for an initial period of three years with the aim to turn it into a permanent position on a full time basis (40 hours/week) a Sugar Beet Breeder (f/m)
Your job descritpion:
- Responsible for a part of the CMS and maintainer breeding program
- Methodical evaluation and critical analysis of the phenotypic data from fields and greenhouses for selection
- Interpretation of molecular marker results for selection
- Optimization of breeding schemes for traits improvement (e.g. enhance resistance to pests and diseases)
- Chemometric data analysis of Near InfraRed Spectroscopic (NIRS) applications in the field and on stationary devices
- Collaboration within an international team of breeders and technicians
- Significant attendance for travelling in Germany and in Europe (mainly France and Italy)
- Scientific support of research projects in collaboration with several private and public organizations
Requirements:
- PhD or M.Sc. with focus on plant breeding or animal breeding, agriculture and related fields
- Good knowledge of statistic and its use for selection is essential
- Background in quantitative genetics
- Experience with the use of molecular markers for marker assisted selection
- Experience in the analysis of large dataset
- Ability to work accurately and systematically both in the office and in the field
- Ability to adapt to the seasonal fluctuations required for breeding and attendance for travelling
- Familiar with the use of MS Office applications and interest in learning new software
- Good language skills of English and German and interest in learning other languages
- Team player and excellent communication skills
- Driving license of type B
