Strube Research GmbH & Co. KG belongs to the leading international plant breeding companies with its head office in Söllingen in the vicinity of the Harz Mountains, Germany. The history of our company reaches back to the year 1877. Today we deliver seeds of sugar beet, wheat, sunflower, vining peas and sweet corn to more than 35 countries worldwide. With the latest technologies, our research and development departments ensure a high performance and highly innovative product portfolio.

To expand our scientific team in the area of sugar beet breeding in our subsidiary in Schlanstedt, Germany, we are seeking for an initial period of three years with the aim to turn it into a permanent position on a full time basis (40 hours/week) a 

Bioinformatician (m/f) for data analysis & database development

Your job description:

  • Bioinformatic analyses to support our sugar beet breeding
  • Database development in collaboration with other departments
  • Analyses of genomic and transcriptomic sequencing data, genome assemblies, variants  identification (SNPs/Indels)
  • Identification of candidate genes and marker development for breeding relevant traits using sequencing-based mapping approaches (such as GBS, NGS-BSA) and expression analyses (for example, RNA-Seq)
  • Management of the sequencing and marker data
  • Design creative bioinformatic research projects in collaboration with public and private partners
  • Collaboration within a team of breeders, researchers and technicians for internal research projects

Requirements:

  • PhD or Master with a minimum of 1-year experience in bioinformatics/computational biology and related fields
  • Experience in developing and using databases (e.g., MySQL, Access) and knowledge of statistical and programming languages (e.g., R, Genstat)
  • Experience in sequencing data analysis (NGS, GBS) and SNP analysis, whole genome de novo assembly and annotation, e.g. CLC Genomics Workbench
  • Experience in trait specific marker development
  • Experience in managing research projects is advantageous
  • Good language skills of English and German
  • Other languages are advantageous
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Team oriented collaborative working style
  • Driving license B
