Position title/Designation: Breeder-Cucurbits

Purpose of a position:

In accordance with the business strategy defined by marketing team, the Breeder will define and execute the breeding methodology for cucurbits in order to create innovative and competitive varieties for assigned target markets of major cucurbits for India/ APAC region.

Qualifications:

M.Sc. or Ph.D. degree in genetics and plant breeding, horticulture or related field with 8-10 years of experience of commercial breeding preferably in cucurbits.

Competencies:

To perform the job successfully, an individual should express the following competencies: Strategic Planning and Analysis – Ability to manage multiple breeding projects, with the end result in mind. Ability to design a breeding scheme based on multiple and complex information sources. Ability to bring new ideas to the table and make proposals.

Technical Skills – Experience with collecting and analyzing experimental data; genetic statistics and experimental design.

Interpersonal Skills – Possess strong communication skills. Ability to develop and maintain productive work relationships with various positions within the organization.

Professionalism - Highly self-motivated individual, with a high level of time management and organizational skills. Well-organized, committed, accurate and thorough with attention to detail. Must possess rigorous scientific manner and practices.

Adaptability - Ability to deal with frequent change, delays, or unexpected events. Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.

Key responsibilities include:

• Setting up research aims and objectives of Cucurbits breeding programme for India/ APAC region
• Framing a project plans and annual budgets (Capex and Opex) of breeding programme.
• Researching new methods of plant breeding
• Undertaking laboratory, glasshouse and field trials
• Analyzing and interpreting data
• Identifying the best varieties/species
• Selecting parent plants for cross-breeding
• Keeping records of your research and findings
• Presenting scientific findings to concerned people.
• Keeping up to date with current developments
• Managing a team of technical staff.
