Soybean Breeding Project Manager, Seeds & Traits R&D

Location: Fowler, Indiana, USA

Dow AgroSciences (DAS) Seeds & Traits R&D is seeking a Soybean Breeding Project Manager. This position will lead soybean event sorting and trait introgression processes at our Fowler, IN research station. In addition, the position must participate in overall station activities to meet company deliverables for technical success, budget, people development, and EH&S.

The primary purpose of this job is to develop new soybean offerings that contribute to the commercial success of the company. In addition, expertise in molecular tools and statistical analyses will contribute to enhanced genotype characterization.

Primary responsibilities will include:

  • Select germplasm, develop and implement a creative and efficient breeding plan with the purpose of selecting superior commercial products in assigned maturity.
  • Understand and leverage the diversity of germplasm available from the Global breeding network
  • Utilize molecular tools in the development of the breeding plan.
  • Develop an annual project budget that supports soybean research goals and objectives.
  • Analyze data from testing program. Make recommendations for advancement to higher levels of testing including commercialization.
  • Collaborate with other research stations within DAS to exchange ideas, plots, germplasm, data and other items to maximize performance of the team.
  • Participate, create and lead multidisciplinary teams to enhance project success.
  • Be the soybean breeding project team leader at Fowler and help to coach the staff to maximize performance, build a culture of safety, adhere to DAS compliance policies, and develop their careers.
  • Travel to outlying stations and winter nursery facilities as needed.

This position is located in Fowler, Indiana, USA.

Qualifications:

  • Masters degree or Ph.D. in Plant Breeding or a related field.
  • Knowledge of soybean germplasm and trait introgression will be essential for success in this position.
  • Ability to understand or quickly learn our markets and the factors that add value in new products.
  • Interpersonal effectiveness and personal leadership skills are critical to successfully lead teams and people.
  • Excellent understanding of statistics and experimental design.
  • A background in Quantitative Genetics and/or Marker Breeding is highly valued.
  • Recognition of the importance of compliance with transgenic traits and the importance of promoting a strong culture of employee health and safety.
