Safeguarding agriculture and bioeconomy priorities through Horizon Europe

Brussels, Belgium
April 7, 2026

Euroseeds joins a coalition of more than 20 stakeholders and welcomes the draft report by MEP Christian Ehler on the future of Horizon Europe (2028–2034), while urging policy-makers to maintain strong visibility for agriculture and the bioeconomy.

The group of stakeholders raises concerns over the proposed amendments which would remove explicit references to both the bioeconomy and agricultural sectors in the programme’s structure. They stress that explicit naming of agriculture and bieconomy is essential to reflect Europe’s strategic priorities, support innovation, and ensure continued investment in food security, sustainability, and rural development.

The signatories call on policy-makers to reject these changes and preserve the original framework proposed by the European Commission, warning that reopening this debate could delay the programme’s adoption and weaken its impact.
