Pierre Lefebvre - Groupe Limagrain - France

July 2002

You serve as the current President of the Confederation Francaise des Semences (CFS). Please tell us about the CFS and the role the French seed industry plays in Europe and the world.
The French have always played a major role in the seed industry. For as long as there has been a seed industry, the French have been key players.

Today, I do believe that France still plays an important role because of its many great seed companies, its considerable expertise, the rich lessons of its past, and the high quality of its private and public research.

Today, the concern of the various French seed associations, which represent companies in the different sectors of the industry, is to ensure that France remains a strong voice in the discussion and decision processes of the industry at the European and global level. This led to the creation of this confederation of associations.

This confederation, the CFS, speaks for all its members on all topics that are of joint interest. It speaks with one strong voice, represents common positions and acts as the interface both with the French government and directly at the European level. The members of the French government who represent our interests with the EU must be carefully briefed. In addition, the CFS endeavors to be a strong voice in presenting specific positions directly at the European level.
