Interview with Dr. Isaac Nir

Does organic production affect the quality of the seed?

The answer is NO !

There are organic growers who produce superior quality seed and others who produce poor quality seed, the same as with conventional seed growers.

If the environmental conditions are suitable for seed production, the initial quality of the seed depends mainly on the grower who knows how to optimize and control his crop, including soil preparation, optimal planting period, plant nutrition and irrigation, pest control and plant protection, pollination, varietal purity, uniformity, maturation, harvesting methods and storage conditions.

All the specific information related to every stage of the production is available to all our growers, but it is up to each individual grower to best utilize this information. These are some of the factors that can affect the initial quality of the seed, whether the production is organic or conventional.
