Each summer, Iowa State University’s Seed Science Center brings together seed industry professionals from across the country to sharpen their technical skills and strengthen industry connections. The 2025 Seed Conditioning Workshops, held from June through August, once again proved to be an invaluable resource for those working in seed cleaning, conditioning, and quality management.
Workshop Highlights
This year’s workshops covered a range of critical topics, including:
- Popcorn Conditioning (June 3–5)
- Color Sorting (June 10–12)
- Soybean and Small Grain Conditioning (July 8–10)
- Gravity Separation (July 23–24)
- Seed Corn Conditioning (August 5–7)
Each session provided hands-on training, in-depth demonstrations, and opportunities for participants to interact directly with experienced instructors and industry peers.
Strong Engagement and Positive Feedback
Across workshops, participants represented a wide variety of companies and professional backgrounds. Surveys showed consistently high marks for quality of instruction, relevance of topics, and usefulness of demonstrations. Many attendees highlighted the value of practical demonstrations on equipment ranging from gravity separators to color sorters, as well as the chance to exchange ideas with colleagues from across the seed industry
Attendees also expressed appreciation for ISU’s experimentation with hybrid formats for certain workshops, which combine online modules with shorter in-person sessions. Feedback will help guide future workshop planning to balance flexibility with hands-on experience.

While dates for the 2026 Seed Conditioning Workshops are not yet set, they will continue to run from April through August. Topics are expected to include advanced techniques in seed conditioning, gravity separation, seed treatment, and quality testing procedures.
