Justin Wierman joins Meristem to bring Illinois farmers more bushels for less

Columbus, Ohio, USA
March 11,2025

Veteran agronomic professional Justin Wierman has joined Meristem Crop Performance, one of the fastest-growing crop input suppliers in America. Wierman becomes Meristem’s Sales Representative for Illinois.

“Justin is a dynamic and results-oriented leader with more than 16 years of experience serving farmers and driving the adoption of new technology,” said Mitch Eviston, Meristem founder and CEO in announcing the new hire. “He’s another great addition to our team of all-stars and it will be exciting to see him boost the traction we are already getting in Illinois.”

Wierman comes to Meristem from Bayer Crop Science, where he spent more than four years delivering whole-farm agronomic solutions to growers; incorporating seed, chemistry, digital tools and other crop production services. Wierman says it is Meristem’s people, product portfolio and approach that attracted him to the company.

“Meristem is bringing a lot of innovation to the crop input business right now and I’m really excited to be a part of this team,” says Wierman. “As I’ve been working with farmers using a variety of other tools to meet challenges, I’ve noticed the success many are having with Meristem products in other parts of the grain belt, and I look forward to bringing that to central Illinois. Delivering microbes through the BIO-CAPSULE® is truly a game-changer when it comes to making this beneficial biology work toward gaining a better ROI (return on investment) for farmers.”

Wierman grew up near Atwood, Illinois, where his early love of farming developed on the family grain farm operated by his grandfather and uncle. A Certified Crop Advisor (CCA), he earned his bachelor’s degree of science and agribusiness at Illinois State University and now is back in his hometown, where he lives with his wife Andrea and their four children. He’s been a volunteer coach of football, baseball, basketball, and softball for more than nine years, and for six years has served as a school board member. “Those COVID years were a challenge, and I think we can navigate about anything after that experience,” he smiles. Before working with Bayer, he gained experience as a field sales agronomist with GROWMARK, a seed manager with Illini FS and a district sales manager with Great Lakes Hybrids.

“Justin knows farmers,” says Nathan Louiso, Meristem VP of Sales for the Eastern U.S. “He has a lot of industry experience leading people and knows how to help others apply new technology to be successful.” Louiso says Justin’s deep experience with seed and plant nutrition will prove important in allowing farmers to realize a greater return on every acre.

“The more I dug into this company,” says Wierman, “I found the products and the people to be fascinating and honestly working to bring great upside potential for the farmers. These biologicals are a new frontier and I’m excited to get in on the early stages of bringing these benefits to the farmers in my area.”
