Elsoms strengthens global and UK offer with squash programme acquisition from New Zealand-based Hybrid Seed Company

United Kingdom
November 14, 2025

With growing demand for resilient, high-performing varieties across both UK and international markets, Elsoms Seeds has acquired the edible squash breeding programme from New Zealand-based Hybrid Seed Company.

Already home to a strong portfolio of proprietary and collaborative breeding programmes, Elsoms’ latest acquisition brings a new depth to its offering—introducing proven, commercially available squash varieties that perform well in a range of global growing conditions. These will complement Elsoms’ existing vegetable range and support continued innovation for both domestic and overseas customers.

The programme, developed by Hybrid Seed Company, adds further capability to Elsoms’ R&D-led approach and is a natural extension of its commitment to breeding varieties that meet market needs with precision and purpose.

Justin Solly, Sales and Marketing Director at Elsoms, said:

“This acquisition is a significant milestone for us. It enhances our ability to serve UK growers while also creating fresh opportunities across global markets. Bringing this squash programme into our business reflects our ambition to offer even greater value through our own breeding and reinforces our growing international reputation.”
